*Lonestar shows dog selective and defensive behaviors here at the shelter. He
shows on leash and barrier reactivity to dogs. He has come to playgroup with calm,
social, appropriate candidates on 4 different occasions and has showed conflicting
behaviors during sessions. When he first came, he showed defensive behaviors
including showing teeth, avoiding, and moving away. Now, he is showing forward
behaviors like chasing, snapping towards, and pinning other dogs. He has not
caused injury to another dog. He did not listen to correction from dogs or people. He
came to playgroup again, wearing a muzzle for safety, and made better choices and
showed improvements. He has the potential to coexist with other dogs, however, the
behavior team does not have the capacity to continue to modify or progress these
behaviors at this time. Due to the observed behaviors *Lonestar showed during
playgroup, we are currently recommending a home with no other dogs.
This dog shows dog-selective behaviors, they get along well with some dogs, but not
all. They may have preferences about which dogs they’re comfortable around and
can sometimes struggle to be socially appropriate with certain others. With ongoing
training, supervision, and proper introductions, their interactions with other dogs can
continue to improve.
This dog is a “potty dog” at the shelter which means they wait to go outside to do
their business and is likely housebroken. He is smart, handsome, and sweet with
people. *Lonestar likes toys and treats.
